Is it better to get the pictures from the memory card from a card reader or from a USB connection to the camera?

Wouldn't removing and inserting the memory card from/into the camera a couple thousand times destroy the connections?

Personally, I read the pictures from the USB connection, but is a card reader faster? If is, is it worth it?

Thanks

I just switched to a card reader...it's faster, but I have the same worries about hurting the card by repeatedly removing/inserting/removing/inserting.

So, I dunno...but it IS faster!

Card readers are way easier and more handy than hooking your camera up to the computer.

I don't think you need to worry about it damaging the card - all the cards are almost indestructable. There have been articles in photo magazines and even the Wall Street Journal about how it is almost impossible to ruin one. There have been cameras blown up while taking pictures of explosions and the card lives to show the pictures afterwards. People have accidently washed them in the washer and it doesn't even ruin them.

I don't think it damages the camera either. Probably after 10 million times it might start to wear out the slot in the camera but you'll never keep your camera that long - by the time you would wear out the slot putting the card in and out you will have a different camera.

Digital camera are always changing and improving. By the time your camera is 5 years old it will be old technology and you'll have a new one.

What and have to deal with that stupid rubber gromit over the camera port - go the card reader, it's faster and far less painful.

Card reader, every time, much easier. Just make sure it has finished properly before disconnecting.
Get usb2 if you have the port, it is lightening fast.

Ditto what everyone else said plus with some slow systems or large files you will save your camera batteries (may not be an issue for you).
