Well, i went and did it - I helped b&h pay their bills for march!
Ordered myself a couple of strobes, gels, a softbox, 2 umbrellas, a grid and barn doors. As you can see, I have no idea what i wanna do so i got one of everything LOL
Well, ok, no backdrop. Playing around on ebay for that, or perhaps go get a paper roll...
I plan to get the paint for the studio today and have it about ready for use this week.
If you see a lot of sudio shots from me in the next few challenges you'll know why!

Did the same thing last week, but from Alien Bee, two stobe setup, love it so far, took some pics of my grandkids last weekend and was so easy to use. |

I waffled bewteen the AB and Stellars...both have good points and iffy points. Final choice was based on recomendations from someone who used both and cost. - he slightly prefered the stellars and they are about $100 less costly and he says abit more light output and brighter modeling lights.
I have a lumedyne that i can use for a third light, BG light that type of thing and it's easy to snoot - but battery powered and no modeling light.
First shots will be product shots for my website - i want to show what a customer gets in a package as a sales aid so to speak.
well, off to do lunch and get some paint!

Hey Prof...this may sound like a weird question, but what color are you painting your studio? The smart part of my brain says probably white...but never having had a studio, I was curious if certain colors work better than others...? |

White studio walls make it _really_ hard to control shadows if you're wanting to do high contrast shots.
Better to go with a darker colour, and then add in white sheets/panels/curtains for reflected light where you want them, rather than have lots of stray light bouncing around.
Of course if you want everything you take photos of to be evenly lit, painting everything flat white makes that a little easier, just point your lights/strobes at the walls and shoot... :-).
Just my 2c worth.

Thanks for the reply Kiwi :-) Makes me feel better about the color I've picked out for guestroom/studio! |

:-).
I've got a friend who built a custom studio onto the back of a large garage/workshop area.. He went to all sorts of trouble with cyc walls etc.. Then painted every surface in the place white.
It lasted for exactly two weeks before he got some dark gray and re-painted it.
