I was wondering how you ended up with a woody.

Umm, that sounds weird, but you know what I mean...

And this part: "I set these guys up late one night on the deck table as a snowfall was beginning, then monitored the light and the snowmelt through the day, until I had sheer photographic perfection (jejejeâ„¢)."

I suspect that you set them up, took a few shots, left 'em there, forgot about 'em, they got snowed on, and you noticed and went back and said "Wow! They look pretty cool with the snow and all..." Or maybe not.

At any rate, a suprisingly emotive picture (for inanimate objects) and very nice finish!

Actually, "not". I had this picture in my mind from an old movie, where the heroine is being banished from her home, with her baby,; she's seen from a seond-story window, standing in the snow, holding her baby, you know the scene. I think people are seeing this as Woody and Duckie as "outcast lovers", and that's fine, but what I actually had in mind was that Duckie is a baby, a bastard child, and that Woody is a woman, and her father has just cast them out now the baby's born. Or maybe she went home with the baby, and he turned her away.

But the title, I think, is misleading, and it's probably just as well, 'cuz the idea of Woody and Duckie clinging to their love against all odds, in the DPC context-of-rejection, is a very pleasing one...

Whatever. What I meant to say is, I did it exactly as described. I had a scenario in mind, a light snowfall began in the wee hours, so I arranged them on my deck table and crossed my fingers that the wind would not come up and that the snowfall would not be too heavy. I got lucky on both counts. Then it was a matter of watching the light and allowing the sun to melt some of the snow on Woody/Duckie; I didn't dare touch them because that's a very uhnstable position and also I didn't want to disturb the purity of the snow beneath.

I actually did take a couple pictures in this exact pose after setting them down on the quarter-inch os snow that had accumulated, but these were backip shots in case they crashed overnight, and the lighting is way too harsh for my satisfaction.

It wasn't hard for me to visualize this happening, I have had lots of snowfalls-on-objects on that table to admire over the years :-)

Wow, bear that IS DEEP. Deeper than the snow. ;-)

Note: Woody represents me, rolling on the floor, laughing my ass off, but not in the literal sense as in "I no longer have an ass" - quite the contrary - but this is metaphorical. Some may see this as representing me having just had my ass chewed off by my wife for goofing off when I have work to do - and that's ok - she does that - but again, not in the literal sense. Others may derive different emotions such as being desirous of kicking my ass and since the image represents the lack of said ass, this would indicate those people's desire to achieve the unachievable.

Sorry bear - I am just razzin ya! :P ugugugugâ„¢

With great dignity, I respond to Ken thusly; "You can laugh all you want, Sir Master-of-the-Woody-shot, but the fact remains that of all people YOU should kjow what it means to conceive, visualize, create, and bring to life a metaphorical Woody scenario. Shame! Shame!"

Unfortunately, I don't have a library of comical images to show you one of MY alter ego rolling on the floor laughing, but you get the idea I hope.

PLus, you're just jealous I worked a DUCKY into mine....

What?? You left your woody and your duckie out all night in the snow??? How cold! Literally. Poor things...

Can't say I can visualize snow anymore, so I do appreciate those who put it in their pictures.

And I need a woody - got a great idea for one of the upcoming challenges...

Although I respect Art Roflmao's work, viewing that collection was the equivalent of completely covering me from head to toe with bees.

I think the best of the lot is:

There is a name for Woody-haters. ...I don't know what it is so for now I'll just call you a Woody-hater. ;-)

These are the same kind of people that look at classic Japanese puppet-theater and think it's at the same level as sock-puppets behind a bedsheet-draped stage. Pay them no heed, sir. They don't understand our art. The loss is theirs, not ours.

As evidence, consider this masterpiece that finished in the bottom half of the "lighting" challenge; clearly an example of duckyphobia, don't you agree?

I understand.
I insulted a friend...nay, a member of your family. Truly, that was not my intent. Hate is such a strong word and I don't think it is quite fitting, at least in my case.
May I be so bold as to suggest other names for those like me?
"FireStarters"
"WoodNots" (not to be confused with WoodKnot)
"Petrifieds"
"Termites"

(man, those suck).
Back to work.

It could be my loss.
But it doesn't feel that way at this point. Maybe someday I'll come around and see the light that you all see.

There are some styles of jazz that I really feel...and there are other styles of jazz that make me want to jam forks in my ears.

Hmmm. Kind of a bizarre analogy, but it seemed fitting (in my walnut-size brain).
