Thanks, Nice to hear something nice for a change. I had a jerk tell me my work was very poor today and really rip into a lot of my stuff.
I think he may have it in for me though? dunno man but thanks for the comment :-) |

Looks good! I really like the puppy love and the wealth image. The expressions are great. Tell the jerk to bite it! Your stuff is good!

Hey, first of all, i just wanted to say that i love those photos! Really great work there. I also would like to ask everybody for some advice when it comes to taking pictures like this. Im quite the beginner with this whole photography thing, but its probably the best thing thats happened to me lately. Im getting so addicted to it that i dream about it pretty much every night.. hehe. Anyway, im pretty intreagued by photos like these and would like to go out into town and do some myself. Im a bit worried though, because im not sure how to go about it. Do you ever have issues where people get angry because you are taking photos of them? Should you ask first? Because i was thinking about doin a photo project on toronto for school, but im not sure about the ethical concerns. This especially applies when photographing the homeless. In a way i would feel bad taking these photos, because i do not wish to insult anybody. When doing it, do you ask them first? The problem is there, you lose some authenticity. If not do you want to hide it? Then you lose some of the time and accuracy of composition etc. I do however want to take some photos that depict this harsh lifestyle in tribute to photographers like Dorothea Lange. I hope this doesnt sound too strange, but i dont want to be distrespectful and just go out there and see what works. Anybody have some experience to share on this issue? Thanks, i really appreciate it. |

Hi tapeworm
I have just started this style of Street and Urban work. I was on a site by a guy called Juan Bulher yesterday (2/3/06) and was so inspired i went out that afternoon and snapped away.
I find most people from yesterday and today just ignore me when i take there picture. As for the homeless i try not to be to intrusive but if they catch my eye i will go over and just have a qucik chat if they want me to. Most of the time they to just dont say a lot. I have on occasion had a word after a shot and offerd them a hot drink and some food and spend 5 mins talking but thats about it.
One of my tricks is to stand on a corner and just watch people go buy and throw the Camera up every now and then.
I think this style works for me as most of my feedback has been very very good. There was an exception today but we wont go into that. Needles to say i will be hiting more streets soon.

I love the couple shots where someone is distantly making eye contact with you, they're like, 'Crap, is someone taking a picture of me?'
If I weren't terrified of getting beat up I'd be taking a lot of street pictures...maybe if I carry enough spare change for the bums and keep a large male near me at all times.
Awesome shots, though, I really want to go out and take a few of my own now :o
