Very cool Alice! You do great work so it should be a success. Good luck and I hope for a chance to stop in someday. |

Hey, Alice.
Everything is great up here in "frozen north country" (LOL). Here in my home city on the east coast we've had an extremely forgiving winter; almost no snow at all! Other cities and areas on the east coast weren't so fortunate though. It really didn't even get seriously cold (frozen north country cold, that is) until mid February. We're back, now, to seasonal temps; 0 to 5 C (32 - 40 F).
Yes, too bad the "other" site went down. I suppose all good things must come to an end.
Hope life is treating you well,
whowie

How fabulous! Is this a permanent gallery or have you taken it on for a fixed term lease only? Your displays look great and lots of exposure.
Would be such a buzz to do something like that but I don't think I'm quite there yet!

Kavey - if you're not there, nobody is! But yeah, I know what you mean. It is a bit scary.
We're here and "yes" it is permanent. A few caveats, we are only open weekends, and by appointment, but in San Francisco, those hours are okay. And with five artists, we still have time to go out and take pics.
This space was formerly a chapel, and then was unused for a long time. The church (Ebenezer Lutheran) is glad to have the space used. It's a good location and we are already getting good neighborhood interest.
We had a successful opening and are looking forward to events to bring more people to see our work.
Frankly, it's fascinating!

Glad to hear the opening went well...
Truly I'd love to do something like that...
Real estate costs a fortune here to rent or buy (I'm sure it does in SF too) and there are too many people looking for bargains not to have already negotiated deals on any suitable unused spaces...
But I do love the idea!

Alice,
I am delighted for you. I think that you have made a great choice to pursue your dreams.
I would love to do that some day also if it ever works out.
Good luck in your efforts. |

After four months in operation, it's time for an update on our Gallery activities.
First of all, we're still in business!
Second, we are making sales and enjoying our activity.
Third, we're still having a fantastic time.
This coming Saturday and Sunday (August 5-6) we are hosting an event (the first of many) to entice people into our Gallery. The details are below and anyone in the San Francisco area is invited to attend and enjoy all the fun.
August 5 and 6
A Women̢۪s Eye Gallery
FULL MOON GALA
AWE Gallery at 678 Portola Dr.
Adjacent to Ebenezer Lutheran Church
(use church parking lot)
Saturday Noon – 5, Sunday Noon -5
Exhibiting Photographers: Stacy Boorn, Deborah Hall, Chris Kibre, Alice Steele & Janet Stock. Deborah
Activities include
Saturday at 2 PM – Renaissance chamber music: Dalyn Cook
Sunday at 2 PM –Author and Chef Jessica Prentice,

(Um) should I say we are making recipes from Jessica's book to serve on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Gallery, an unused former Chapel attached to the Ebenezer Lutheran Church, now looks like this:

There's so much going on today on the front page, I'm going to give this a little bump to give people a chance to visit this weekend if they are in the San Francisco area... |

HaHa. If they parked there (3 lanes of fast moving traffic) they'd never make it into the Gallery!
"Instant Sidewalk Art Installation".
But they've got time to slow down and go into the parking lot.
And thanks, Bear Music for the nice words. Yes, it's just a whole lot of fun to do this. |

I decided to exhume this old Thread instead of making up a new one so you can enjoy the Gallery background.
The Gallery - A Woman's Eye - (AWE Gallery) is still in operation on weekends more than a year after we started it. The same five women photographers still exhibit (I'm one of them) and occasionally we have shows of other people's work.
One of these shows is opening this weekend with a nice party/reception on Saturday, July 14th. I know we are having the SF GTG on Sunday (And I'll be there), but if anyone in the area wants to drop by the Gallery on Saturday, I'd love to see you. Or drop by any weekend through 8/12
Here are the details:
Mary Blake Watercolor Exhibition
July 14 - August 12
Weekends - Saturday & Sunday, 12:00-5:00
Reception, Saturday, July 14, all afternoon
Mary is a good friend and a talented watercolor artist. A goodly part of her work is nature, especially birds, but all of it is exciting and original. Her website is here, for a preview.
Our work is still up in the main gallery.

I am going try and make it on Saturday barring any unforeseen work related things getting in the way. :) Parking is not too bad around there? |

Joe, that's terrific. Love to see you.
Parking is plentiful and free. The Church lets us use the lot that belongs to it, off Sydney. "Can't miss it." |

Is there a convenient way to get there by BART/Muni (from Oakland)? |

You know, Paul, there is. The gallery is a few blocks from the Forest Hills Station in SF with bus service stopping a half-block away at Woodside/Portola. That bus goes to BART at Glen Park Station. The Woodside/Portola intersection is in the middle so you can get at it from either direction. I live only a few blocks from the Gallery but can't take Muni 'cause I'd have to climb a mountain to get to a bus stop, so I don't really know the exact route numbers.
Oh, I'd love to see you if you could make it. |
