Would you take a minute or two to let me know what the issue was for this shot? Is it the composition, technical aspects or post processing? Would you have scored it differently in a challenge called "Two Colors" (or similar)?

I find it interesting that I received a substantial number of high scores (7,8,9,10) and low scores (1,2,3). Obviously there were strong feelings each way (and it wasn't related to sex, drugs or alcohol). ;-)

Its a wondeful photo. My guess is many voters did not find it duptone, black and white or sepia.

Fine photo though.

I've got to agree with the others that it appears to be more tritone, instead of duotone. Looks like you got some great comments about the photo, so I really think the score was so low b/c some didn't feel like it met the challenge. I wouldn't worry about it too much b/c its a nice photograph when you take away the challenge, if you know what I mean. Be proud of it.

Thanks so far for the comments and posts. I thought it was fairly strong, but that the processing didn't create a true duotone. This is not a complaint - just trying to understand and make sure my thoughts are in synch with what the voters were saying.

I had done some research about duotones and found that it was originally about running a print through the printer twice - once black and white, and the second time with another color. Since I didn't have a Duotone tool in Elements, I decided to desaturate all of the colors except one (red) leaving a black and white with one additional color. That gave me more control over the contrast and tones than "colorize."

As I saw the other images, I could see that it had a very different look than the others - the red didn't run throughout the picture.

I am still having a difficult time understanding "duotone." Even after reading the posts, threads and research. What makes this look tritone? Does a true duotone have the 2nd color throughout all the picture for that intensity of tone?

It doesn't seem to be a duotone. Honestly, I'm suprised it didn't get DQ'd.

A photo can not be DQ'd for not meeting the challenge.
