I'm about to be in. I predict a good solid 4.3-4.6. I know what will displease voters with this shot, but I'm rather fond of the darn thing so I'm submitting anyway! Can't live without something do with the update button.... :-)

As long as I beat my last score I'm happy. It's in focus so thats a good start.

Iv entered mine, changed it, entered another one, re-edited and entered another one.....re-edited and tried another one! The problem Im having is the colors look different on my computer and my husbands so I have to check both, make any adjustments and re-post......loosing my mind....which one to pick....

Well, if I know these voters, my image should get at least a 6. It is EXCEPTIONAL. Great contrast, saturation, composition, focus, and it is also interesting and aesthetically pleasing. The title ain't to bad, either. Let the voting begin.

I must admit that I did take several different images, and the first one I entered has since been put to the trash heap. I wanted to enter another one, but realized I couldn't because I had used advanced editing. The one I finally settled on I took over the weekend, and I did not take the pictures for a challenge at all but for me. Lets see if my personal taste in what I like gels with the voters.

If you are using Photoshop goto your control panel and run the Adobe Gamma Wizard. If you do that on both monitors they should end up looking the same.

Oh and as for my prediction, well I'm about to end up with a 6.10-6.15 for Duotones, judging by that I'd guess about 5.0-5.5 for Comfort, my shot is a little too plain, but I like it, it comforts me :P

Just throwing this out there, do you think comfortable counts as comfort?

edit: No I dont have photoshop, I use Gimp so no luck there.

I'm sure to lose -- my entry is none of the above, so it must not be about comfort.

I am really looking forward to seeing how my entry does. i am quite pleased with it. I would however have to agree with Talmy's sentiment... my photo fits none of those so may be a brownie in the making.

This is only my second challenge, but I've gone with something that comforts me. It's what I do to relax. I like how my pic came out, and I'm not too bothered how it scores. I like it.

After being somewhat surprised by my low score in my first challenge (Duo Tones, looking to hold around a 5) I'm really only entering future challenges to engage myself and keep me shooting, as evidently my taste differs quite a bit from the majority on this site.

Would be nice to get a decent score, but I suspect my pic is miles away from the majority of entries in subject (I'm not sleeping in the pic!) so that could really count against it. We'll see.

I'd like to score over 5 of course, but suspect it will be real low....

Hi everyone.....

Yes, its me Shez, letting you know that for a whole week I have been trying to understand the "comfort" challenge.

I even posted a thread to ask you all for suggestions. You gave me some great ideas, but they didn't jell for me.....

I then skipped over to the idea of submitting something for the "Painting with Light" challenge.

After flirting around with some ideas, was not convinced they really suited the moving light principle so gave up. I then decided not to enter for now, and have a wee break.....

Today, I woke up with a flash light going off in my head..... A great idea came to pass, so at the very last minute, actually hours, I have up-loaded and submitted an image for the "COMFORT CHALLENGE".....

Let the VOTING & COMMENTS begin.....

I promised myself I'd not enter anything that would score below 5 this year, but I couldn't resist. Just hoping people won't just this one TOO harshly because I really like it.

I tell you what - I enter for much the same reason you've noted - it makes me get out and shoot. And think a bit more on what I'm doing. And re-shoot if I didn't get what I want and have the opportunity to do a re-shoot.

I also tend to have very different tastes than "the majority" in most instances. I'll like a pic that ends up WAY down the list, but it "speaks" to me. We can't all like the same things - it would be awfully boring if we did! So glad to see you in the fray - keep it up. And for a lot of us, 5 is a very respectable score. :-)

I just jumped in with 25 minutes left to go. Who knows what I'll get. It's tack sharp and certainly meets the challenge.

6.5??? ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Good to hear that! I think the best thing to come from my time on this site will be the weekly "need" to shoot.

BTW my Comfort score is up to 5.75 already, which I'm very pleased with. It'll plummet no doubt....

I surmise that many of the voters didn't read the challenge description : "It doesn't have to be warm and fuzzy, just something that is comforting to you", thus I predict a mediocre score for me; c'est la vie.
03/01/2006 01:14:01 PM · #22
This was the first challenge I entered. I've seen on another thread that 4.7 - 5.3 might be considered a low score. I started at around 5.7 but dropped overnight to around 5.1.

What would be a reasonable expectation/hope for a first challenge score?
03/01/2006 01:19:33 PM · #23
Well, this being my first entry into a challenge, and me with little talent or experience - if I score above a 3, I'll be happy I guess.

And yes - mine does fall into one of the categories raplhnev predicted :D Gotta work with what's on hand, right ?
03/01/2006 01:21:27 PM · #24
I expected above a 6 for this one...even hoped for a ribbon. It goes up above 6 and then drops back below, repeatedly. I guess it won't stay up there. I positively know this entry is excellent (if I do say so myself LOL), and that's the surest I've ever been at DP...so all I can guess is that some voters don't like the subject matter or think it is cliche.
