So in one of my other threads the Sigma EF-500 DG Super E-TTL II flash unit came highly recommended. As I am not sufficiently versed in flash units, is there a downside vs getting a Canon flash(say a 430 or 550 EX)?

I thought that I read that the only real difference was that the Canon one can also be used to control other flash units wirelessly.

I could be totally wrong on this as this is totally not my area.
