What is your logic (if any) that you use to determine whether or not your picture is worthy of selling on DPCPrints (or other)?
Do you just throw all your pictures there?
Just those that did well in Challenges?
Stuff your family likes?
Do all your For Sale pictures strike you with the "Wow" effect?
Am I thinking too much about this? (Common tendency of mine)
For instance, I just uploaded a picture that I really like (childhood memories *sniff* *sniff*), but the only person that would buy it is the property owner...and even then, it's doubtful. I probably won't try to sell this...it would just be a waste of space.
I appreciate your thoughts on the selling decision process.

Actually, I disagree--it's a very nice landscape image, and it might sell.
I decide as follows. Look at it objectively. Forget "where it is" from a personal memory point of view, and that you're the photographer (for a moment). Now ask yourself:
Could you see this hanging on:
1) Your wall
2) A gallery wall?
3) A place of business wall?
If the answer is yes to 2 or 3, offer it for sale definitely. If it's yes to #1, probably should. And even if not, what have you to lose? Put it up there for a year, and if it doesn't sell, consider perhaps taking it down if you need "space" (your portfolio is too crowded).
I've yet to take my nonsellers down, but my DPCPrints account is only recently getting "big". But I'm sure I have some up there that probably don't meet some of the criteria above.

That process really does simplify the decision.
The difficult part of that, of course, is separating yourself (as the photographer) to objectively say 'Yes' or 'No' to that list. I guess the ability to do so is just one more item on my (ever expanding) list of 'Must Learns' in digital photography.
Thanks for the response! |

| Well I like the photo. I personally wouldn't buy it, because it is not somthing that would go with my style, but I still like it. I think that you could answer "yes" to question 2 and 3!!! |
