Amazon has the 30D listed at $1399, shipping May 15.
b&h lists it not. Boo Hiss.
adorama has it for april/may shipping at $1399.
Amazon actually lists teh 20D for less than B&H and with free shipping! I don't see a 20D body only at adorama. Adorama didn't want to sell me my rebel way back when, so i'd prefer not to buy from them.
SOOOO, i need it ASAP, as i want to learn it and use it for a wedding May 26...do i order at amazon now, to get on the list, and i suppose i can cancel leter. do i try adorama or call b&h and bug them for an answer on this?
Will the price drop a tad as the release nears? I mean, $1399 is retail, and none of these places sell at retail...

Hi there,
Becarful of amazon they will sell you an imported one without a US warantee, if thats ok with you it is cheaper and works the same. BH Phot is always good for me. No experince with Adorama, but I have heared good things.
Good Luck sounds like a great camera.

i'd bet the 30D will sell for MSRP initially. So only place to save is from shipping and taxes.
Having said that, when I tried buying the N when it was coming out, the smaller shops didn't have it in enough numbers. Norman Camera in MI took my order but never filled it. B&H had it and filled the order.
I'd recommend the biggest buyer out there, as they'll get the biggest number of units. So I'd say B&H, Ritz, or other national chains.
Adorama started sending out e-mails asking for the buyer to call back to upsell/sell accessories, so I don't like them. Beachcamera has great prices and fast delivery but I don't know if they will get the initial shipment as fast as B&H or in sufficient numbers as B&H.
So if it was me, I'd preorder/sign up on the "notify me" list at B&H.
Are you listening Henry???

I've ordered several cameras from Amazon and have been extremely pleased with their service. They ship quickly and at low cost - they are very good about taking returns also. All the cameras I've bought there come with USA papers and registration. They are not grey market cameras.
Really, it surprises me that people have negative things to say about Amazon - I've never been stung by them and have ordered tons of different kinds of things.
Another place to check is Buy.com - they are great to work with and sell all sorts of electronics. |

Ordering, I always deal with B&H. They have not let me down yet and I have ordered three times from them. Hey I even get a monthly catalog, wow!

also, no tax... |

I've used Adorama 3 times and 1 time they screwed my order up and it was a bit of a pain to get them to send me what I specifically ordered but it was just that one time. BH has been good the 2 times I've used them. As for Amazon, I believe they use Adorama as their vendor for a lot of their camera stuff but in general I haven't had any issues ordering stuff from Amazon.
Regarding the grey market (i.e. import) versions sometimes you could get something like a manual that's not in english. I had that happen one time also. Maybe I'm just not very lucky when it comes to ordering camera stuff?

The only gripe I have with Amazon is they try to sell you things that should be included for the purchase price. Take a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 for example. For the $1199 or whatever I paid, the lens should come with the hood and the carrying case. Most all places it does except at Amazon. They want you to buy it separately when it's already in the box.
Edit: Use B&H or Adorama That's where all my stuff comes from. More B&H than the other. They have the "Bill Me Later" plan.

I have always liked adorama. I've bought, my film scanner, my digital camera, a number of lenses and whole bunch of assorted items from them. I do have to admit when I bought my scanner a couple of years back and they sent me the email to call them and they wanted to push their extended warranty it irked me, but I went back. A friend that just bought his D70 off Adorama put a note on his special instructions box "Please do not try to get me to buy and extended warranty" and they didn't.

I ordered my 70-200 IS from Amazon when B+H was closed for Passover or something, I had it the next day. On big ticket items it's worth the extra $$ for overnight. |
