Hi, I'm getting ready to purchase a workstation and I'm looking around for a good 15 inch LCD monitor. I will be doing professional photo editing of course, (I'm skimping for now, a bigger monitor is in the pipelines) and I 'm not too famiiar with what makes an LCD monitor good for precise graphics editing. I have more familiarity with broadcast CRTs and I'm used to the dial controls I have over how its set (blue bars, etc...). What small monitors will really give me control over their calibration? I notice that most have practically no way for the user to really calibrate them. Thanks for any insights you can give!

I would peruse this thread before purchasing, making special note of what EddyG has to say.

Doesn't quite touch on what you asked, but still relevant.

My old CRT went bad, so I bought a 17" LCD. Found it way too light for editing photos. The contrast ratio was 500:1. I've read that you need at minimum 600:1. So, I returned it and got a 20" wide screen LCD with 600:1 contrast ratio. It was better, but still didn't really give a true reading (compared to my other CRT monitor). And additionally it didn't work with my existing video card. (Had the correct driver, etc.) It compressed all the images. It's now sitting in a box ready to be returned also.

Ended up buying another CRT monitor. Guess I'll have to wait until I get a completey new system (only 3.5 years old) and the price of really good LCDs comes down.

Good luck.
