My first challenge in 6 months. I am happy to have anything above a 1 average. I did think I picked the wrong challenge to show up to.

Voted on about 10% so far and I am struck by the number of pics where people seem to just converted any old pic to b/w etc just to comply with the challenge. I've found quite a few where I'd guess that the colour pic would be much better (purdy flowers, sunsets etc) and I ask myself why spoil a perfectly good pic just to enter a challenge. Am I the only one finding this? How do you score this sort of thing?

I can only hope that you are right.

I was hoping for and honestly believed I had a 5.5+ image. But...

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement.

I agree. I would also note that it's much harder to achieve a true duotone (yellow, red, green, blue, purple, sepia) that actually suits or works with an image and isn't a simple, lay-up conversion. If well matched they are really spectacular.

Okay, what does this tell me?

At first glance, it looks as if I may have garnered some low numbers for my photograph, as well as some high numbers. My photo's probably not everybody's cup of cappucino, but some people do like it.

That actually gives me confidence to try this again with another challenge - possibly not one with 600+ entries, though... ;-)

I've voted on about 35% of the photos so far - so many roses and seascapes in the collection...

Not as bad as i thought this one could turn out. If I am lucky I may reach the 6.0 mark before then end of this. i guess I will have a better idea with a few more votes here.

I've seen those too Adrian. Yeah in some cases, color would be nice but lest forget the challenge description - Duotones. I doubt anyone would want to spoil a perfectly good photo by converting to BW or sepia. Of course a perfectly good photo should always be taken and it just so happens that the challenge asks for a certain color rendition style. My thoughts, whomever image it is that you're referring to, PM them and ask to see the original. Nothing wrong with that ;)

As far as scoring goes, just bear in mind the challenge description. Had it been a true Free Study, then you would see color abounding throughout. Unfortunately it's not. So base your score on merit of techneicals and of course, the "oooh" and "ahhhh" factors ;)

This is what I tried to say with a reply earlier. But I not native english speaking. But I think this covers about it.
I made mine with the intension to make a color duotone picture, before I even started.
