This is probably a dumb question, but what the heck.......

While I was at our daughter's swimmeet, I noticed that when I put my camera on the automatic sports mode, I got sharper, clearer pictures that I did when I put it on shutter priority. I was using my Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. I'm wondering why that is, since in the shutter priority mode I had the shutter speed set to around 1/500, but the camera in sports mode had the shutter speed set anywhere from 1/125 - 1/200. It looks like that wouldn't have been fast enough to hand hold and still get the stop action and sharpness needed.

In sports mode it switches to a tracking autofocus mode; it's keeping the subject in focus as it moves. Cool beans, eh? Check your manual for details; you don't have to be in sports mode to use it.

you might want to try turning on AI-Servo in your other creative modes, and you'll have the same focusing as in sports mode, only with more options.

Oh, cool! Thanks! Looks like I'll need to get the manual out again. :)
