Ashland. I've seen sign for Salyersville when I worked in Louisa and we drove that way just out for a drive.

Ashland is 1 1/2 hours north of Salyersville. You will probably want to come through here to get to the bridge. Once you get to Paintsville take a left at the bottom of the second exit ramp, go through the first overpass and turn right at the light under the second overpass onto 460, take 460 to salyersville and turn right onto the mountain parkway. you will not need to make any more turns (drive straight through Salyersville on the Mountain parkway) til you get to the exit for the bridge which is well marked. The bridge is about a 40 minute drive from Salyersville.
DO NOT EAT AT THE SHONEYS OR KFC IN PAINTSVILLE!!!

well y'all (exaggerated southern accent inserted since I don't have one lol) I have to pull out of this. (Not that I'm much of a loss) Looks like my friends wedding is May 7th and she wants me to photograph it...(don't tell her but I'd really rather be photographing the wild flowers and KY hills but what can I do.)
You all enjoy yourselves, be careful and if my plans change I'll see you there.

Ok, give with the info about Shoneys and KFC :), My hubby is also coming. He is a climber and his buddies go climbing in the gorge all the time. I think he has a route but I will ask him about your suggestion.

Tell your husband I know of some nice places around paintsville lake to go climbing, nice gorge there like Red River Gorge but smaller scale, not very well known to lots of people. If he's interested I can give directions.
I was serious about the KFC and Shoneys, poor service and not very clean. I was sick for two days the last time I ate the seafood bar at that particular shoneys.... |

If you could make it a mini vacation i have a couch(and girls are willing to give up thier beds to you & or family) your more than welcome to crash on for a couple of nights. It would save ya the cost of getting a room and Im about 1/2 way from you and natural bridge.

Very nice! So, is there any greenery there yet? Or is it still just the evergreens. I can't tell from your pic? I need to take my kids. We haven't been there since we only had the one kid. Now there are two and he is 5.

Just the Rhododendrons,Hemlocks, holly and laurel. Some of the undercover is starting to come up, trailing arbutus, harbinger of spring, and spring beauties. |

Thanks for the invite Cher but it looks like you guys have decided on May 6th. With the new 12 hour schedule I am on I am working that whole weekend so I won't be able to make it. Maybe next time.
