I took these last Friday while in MA for my grandmother's funeral. This is not the cemetery she was buried in however. Feedback is greatly appreciated.

Graveyards make for great photo subjects. I agree with the others, number 3 is a superior image - For me 1 and 2 are a little too dark with perhaps too much grass, (like the tree shadow however in these).

My condolences.
Charles,
Look through some of the photographers' portfolios on this site. You will find any number interested in cemetery scenes. Some of them are simply fantastic.
I vote for #3 also.
BTW, are you the orchid grower? |

well, i have to disagree with the others...graveyard 3 is my fav. it has the more dramatic look with the long shadows and silhouettes. i have lots of cemetery photos in my portfolio and even more in my Pbase gallery.
i'm sorry for the loss of your grandmother. *hug*

Thanks for all the responses. I admit that I am very suprised though; I was sure people would like the first two images better than the last one. Well, I guess that just goes to show you can never tell how people will react.

I'm sorry for your loss, but you're to be commended for responding to your grandmother's death in a way is so constructive and ultimately kind of beautiful. |

I like the last one best because I like how the headstones are leaning toward eachother, but the first two are very good too. I was wandering around and found this old church/cemetery, and all these headstones were just propped against the church chimney. It's really very sad how they've been forgotten. I'm thinking about trying to get in touch with the pastor to talk to him about transcribing/photographing each headstone to upload onto findagrave and similar sites before the headstones disappear.
This is just another old family cemetery around here:

It just seems creepy to me to be wandering around photographing a cemetary. I think they are great subject matter, but I just think I would be creeped-out.
I also like #3

One of these days I want to go to Richmond's Hollywood Cemetery. According to local legend, there's a vampire living in one of the mauseleums. |

Where I live there is a 'Adopt a Cemetary' organization. They have mapped all the known cemetaries, and you can adopt the cemetary and do restoration so that it doesn't become forgotten. I helped on one last year that was back in a field. I'm thinking of formally adopting one this year!
I LOVE cemetaries....its like reading a family history book!

I am so sorry to hear that.
I really like #3, also I like #1. I love the coloring you were able to use in the first 2 and I think b&w was a good choice for #3.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother, my sympathy to you & your family.
I also like photo #3 the best.
Although, next in line would be photo #1 - it gives off a "spooky" sort of feeling.
I have been known to wonder for hours photographing tombstones :). |
