I̢۪ve always wanted to get into photography and within this past year my desire has grown tremendously. But I̢۪m having a hard time deciding which camera I should purchase. I̢۪ve looked into these 3 cameras so far and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or advice.
Canon rebel XT
Nikon 50D
Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D.
Thanks-- |

You will have a hard time deciding here....
You need to be able to try each camera. Our opinions on three cameras that are so close in quality will be too subjective.
Have you tried Digital Photography Review? They offer great forums for each brand and awesome reviews on the technical qualities of each.
Beyond that...Think longterm. Which camera may give you the best set of lens choices, upgrades path, accessories, service support etc. In that area Nikon and Canon are the big ones but Konica/Minolta isn't horrible.
Also...look at the cameras here. When you pull each camera up here there will be a portfolio of the shots made with that camera. Maybe you will like someones photos in there and you can PM them about their experiences with the camera.
Canon Rebel 350XT
Nikon D50
Minolta/Konica 5D

It really depends on about three things:
What you plan to take pictures of
How the camera feels in your hands
and, how much you want to spend
The first two should be the most important, but reality usually make the third one very important.
I picked the camera I have because I liked how it felt in my hands more than the Canon and Nikon, and the two lens kit I got with it had lenses that will suffice for awhile. |

Konica is getting out of the camera business so I'd recommend either the Nikon or the Canon, whichever one you like the most. To me, the Canon has better image quality while the Nikon feels better in the hand and handles better. But overall, I don't think you could go wrong with either one. If you already have a SD card, then the Nikon might be a better deal since it takes SD cards and is cheaper as well. I'd skip the kit lens though.

A very similar question was asked by someone else just recently, in //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=349307 - a lot of responses there that are worth looking at.
Regarding Yido's comment about Konica(-Minolta) getting out of the camera business - Konica-Minolta have sold their SLR technology to Sony. Sony is going to continue supporting K-M cameras and the Minolta lens mount, but it's an unknown question about where they will go with it. So there's an element of risk, but it's not necessarily doom and gloom.
As I (and several others) said in the other thread, really the only way to work out which is best for you is to go to a shop and try all three out yourself. They're all decent cameras, so it will probably come down to personal preference.
