As Jacques has noted, you can choose to use the distortion for artistic effect, or try to rid yourself of it. If you choose the latter, software is your friend. There are many programs out there that have the ability to correct lens distortion, but be forewarned, it is not a simple process. Photoshop itself does not have good tools for this, but there are "plug-ins" available that can help.
The mathematical relation between input and output can be very complex, and varies with the lens used and also with the zoom position. Also, the software often is written for technically advanced users. I've not experimented much with this, though it is something I would like to get better at.
