I decided to pit my Canon 28mm f/2.8 against my new Tokina 19-35 f/3.5-4.5 to make sure the 28 was worth keeping around. Can you tell which is which below? (These are 100% crops from the center of the frame...)

I tend to prefer the first (=lens 1). Looking at the word 'Book' at f/4 and f/8, I don't like it how the letters blend into eachother in the 2nd row (=lens 2).

You hear that? It's my own drummer.
I like #2 - I think it is sharper and i like the color better (a bit warmer).
So which is which?

| I don't think I'd be unhappy with either, but the first is definitely the best. The oof areas are much more even and regular. Softer, better bokeh. |

I have the 28/2.8 and I'd guess that it's #2, in that the colour from this lens is a little on the cold side compared to my other lenses. This seems to be reflected in your images.

Hmmm..
Is the first the one the 28mm prime and the second the zoom?
Both have good elements about them. |

The first lens is the Tokina, #2 is the Canon. I must say, I was suprised that a 3rd party zoom seems to stand up to a canon prime... hmmmmm what's up with that? |

That Tokina is a good lens it seems...the first row of shots are what you would expect from a good lens.
The thing that threw me off...the F4 shot. The Canon prime really has some weird OOF effects ..the Bokeh is not very subtle compared to the Tokina. I thought that might have been caused by a zoom. Weird :-/ |
