Does it take only EF series lenses, or will other's also work? |

EF series lens only
unless...
You buy the adapter that will allow FD (manual focus) lenses. |

Okay. I have a friend whose husband died very suddenly last year. He was a private investigator and apparently has a whole office full of camera equipment. She hasn't gone through any of it yet, but my sister looked for her to see if any of the stuff was digital (it wasn't) and she thinks the lenses were all the FD series.
The wife is legally blind and will probably be getting rid of this equipment at some point, so I was curious. My 10D isn't even here yet and I'm thinking about buying lenses.....LOL |

I've seen a lot of FD lenses on sale now: a boon for die-hard filmies, really. |

Unless you can find one of the Canon adapters that they gave to pros when they switched over, I'd avoid the adapters.
You're probably better off spending your money on an EF lens unless there is something really special in there.
