This one says 7.1 stops. In RAW you can maybe eek out 12 stops I read elsewhere. (before you convert) |

3 EV's? |
I was reading Rick Sammon's Complete Guide to digital Photography, and he states that the human eye can see 11 Exposure Values of light (dynamics), film 5EV, and slide/digital 3EV's.

so around 7 stops... cool for some reason I thought the lattitude was close to that of slide film, ie 3 stops? |

I've always heard digital is 5, but with raw you can push it to 7.

On this page here they ran test with Sony DSC-R1 and Canon 350D. The jpeg straight from camera from the sony had a usable range of 7.8EV while the canon's had 8.1EV. When shot in RAW they could push the Sony to almost 11EV. They didn't test the 350D but given the results in JPEG. AND given the fact that the contrast in camera is higher with the sony due to in-camera processing, you can expect about the same results from the 350D and the 20d
Edit: damn typos.....

If you're referring to dynamic range, check out this thread. |
