I don't get it. personally I think this is way better than my Romance shot and yet it has done far worse. So, what am I missing?

Just did not have much interest. The buildings look like they had potential but from this angle and with most being OOF we were only left with the lanterns. Hope that helps.

I thought maybe I had over-saturated the lanterns; but no comments to that effect.

Personally, I find that the lanterns detract from the main subject of the dilapidated buildings. I think you should have shot from a more interesting angle and not included the lanterns.
