I received an email from Charlene today....please read the Original post from Butterflysis and help get Charlenes goal up.
Hey Everybody,
This past weekend we did our final training hike at Whiting Ranch. 8 miles and lots of hills. It was a tough one, but with all the rain the trails are spectacular. There are plants I do not recall ever seeing before that have made their way out of the ground with all of the rain. Even the cottontails are looking fatter. More food and more cover, I think the coyotes are having a hard time finding them:> After the hike, the team met up with our honored hero Julie for the first time to celebrate her birthday. It was a poignant moment to realize she has survived another birthday because of the advances in research and treatments for Leukemia. One of the things Julie said was that it was a privilege to get old and that the one thing she really wants to do in life is get old. She is looking forward to gray hair, wrinkles, the whole nine yards:>
Another thing I wanted to share with you is a conversation I had with one of my teammates. She was diagnosed with Leukemia 8 months ago. She felt she needed to give back in some way because she lives everyday with the benefits of the research the LLS has done. They have developed a new drug that is like chemotherapy everyday, but on a super smaller scale and more focused to cause less damage to healthy tissue. Her doctor has told her that for now, this drug will help to keep her disease from spreading and for the need of a stem cell or bone marrow transplant. It will buy her precious time. Who knows what five years will bring in treatments or maybe even a cure.
So far I have raised $2,150, our team has raised $135,000 and is expected to be over $150,000 as there are still donations coming in. Overall, there are 8 chapters across the US that will be participating in this event and together we have raised $3,000,000!
Many hands make a miracle.....................
I just wanted to let each of you know that you have made a difference in the fight against blood cancers. I believe that once they figure out how to cure one cancer, then the rest are to follow!
So thank you!
Now its time for me to do my part and hike the Grand Canyon, I will be leaving this Friday. Will let you know how that one turns out.........
Many thanks,
Charlene
