What is a vote without a comment? â€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦Think about it a moment â€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦
Voters vote in different ways. Three different voters may vote a 5 on your picture and each have a different view on what a five means. One may say a five is an average photograph while another voter may say it̢۪s a great shot and the third thinks of it as a below average shot.
I have seen the comments on this site go down a lot over the last few challenges. Where we were averaging 14 comments per entry the last few challenges had fallen to 6 per entry, less than half. And about 10% of those comments came after the challenge was over congratulating the winners and others.
I am guilty of not commenting or commenting very sparingly but I have made up my mind to try to fix this problem. I think people should have enough feedback on their entry to possibly take the advice of the voter and incorporate it into future entries. Some people may not want to comment fearing it will create competition or maybe they just don̢۪t have time. But I̢۪m going to try to do my best to leave as many comments on entries as possible.
You may find my comments harsh or something you may not want to hear. You may ask what right do I have commenting on your photograph when you are better at photography than I am. Please remember that professional, amateur, and novice photographers can give anyone good advice if they tell the photograph what they see or don̢۪t see in a photograph from the eyes of the voter.
So from now on I̢۪m am going to try the following. Starting from the challenge that ends the soonest. I am going to comment when I vote, up to 25% of the challenge entries. Then I am going to move to the next challenge and do the same until I have voted and commented on 25% of entries (no cherry picking) commenting on low, medium, and high scores. When I complete this I will go back to the first challenge and continue to vote and comment up to the 50% mark and do the same on each challenge. Hopefully I will have time to vote and comment on 100% of the challenges.

| sounds like a good idea! I know on the country challenge Ive tried to leave more comments. Ive been lazy recently, havent even voted on all the challenged but Im trying to do better starting with Country. And as southern said, all comments are my opinion and you can take it with a grain of salt or leave it in the dust. |

| I used to make lots of comments, but then one of them was made the topic in a forum and trashed by popular member(s). The resulting forum made me doubt myself and my ability to comment effectively. Unfortunately, I was fairly new to DPC and have thin skin. Some time has passed and once more I hope to contribute more comments - be they received well or not. |
