I just came home from taking some pics of my family during a sunset, and my memory card started messing up. While we were at the beach it was fine, showing all my images and everything. When I got home and put it in the card reader the reader was blinking like is wasn't totally connected. I tried to look at the images anyway. I was viewing one (with the viewer for win xp) but when I tried to open it in photoshop it locked up. I thought the connection was loose with the card so I took it out and put it back in. When I took it out all my windowss closed (this is normal, the windows that where showing the pictures closed) and when I put it back in it was corrupted. Now all the pictures in that folder show up with IIC[ in front of the image number and .jpc as the extension. When I try to change the extension back to .jpg it says I cannot write to the media. If I try to copy it to my HD it says I cannot read from media. Can anyone help?
Edit to say there was also two folders added inside where the pictures are on the memory card. One is called * and the other is named **. Also, the pictures in another folder on that memory card are still readable.

Is this a Lexar?
They have had problems with Canons. I sent mine back for them to retrieve the data but couldn't and sent me a new card. Needless to say, I sold it and now use Kingstons without problems.
There are data recovery programs out there, maybe others can recommend specific programs.

My card is a sandisk ultra II, 1gb.
Are there any free data recovery programs? I would just reshoot this before paying for something.

They have a recovery pro program for their stuff. Also if it's under warranty, I think they can attempt to recover the data for you as well.

Yea, just noticed it as well, maybe their website is corrupted as well.
I think you should call them, if it's under warranty, then they should attempt to recover the data for you and fix/replace your card.
Good luck

So you guys dont think a format would fix this? If it does I would rather just do that than be without the card for that period of time, and those pics weren't THAT important.

OT,
you are the second person I've seen have problem with a Pro level Sandisk. The first was a guy with a Mark II and a Sandisk Ultra or Extremem SD card. He had to return it. Lexar had admitted some don't match with Canons. I had a Lexar 80x pro card that I check with their website, they said it was ok but it crashed anyway. Since then I've used Kingston Pro 1GB, 2GB CF cards and a Kingston Ultra SD card on my Mark II N and XT with over 11000 shots with out a single problem. They are cheaper and come with lifetime warranty as well. Ironically I got the first 1GB Kingston card while waiting for my crashed Lexar Pro card to be fixed.

I downloaded the demo to a program that recovers pictures from damaged cards and it was able to recover them. It is only the demo however. Are there any free programs that will do that?

I found a free program that recovered my pictures. The name is pc inspector smart recovery.

Now hopefully a format will fix my card.
