We had a Portrait session at our Photo club on Thursday (9th feb).
I do not feel that I am all that good at doing potraits, but here is 1 that i have done in colour and high contrast - your comments please.
thanks

Before this rolls off the front page I'll throw in my 2 cents.

You got a lovely model there and right off I say that for me the high contrast shot does not portray the beauty justly. The darkness seems to add age and remove tendernous.

The lighting and softness of the color shot are wonderful. I could live with the tight crop but I would like to see the model with her face tilted forward a bit more. The key to this shot for me are her eyes in constrast with her soft blonde hair, they go well together. As I study the shot the nose tends to be a be a bit of a distraction. I don't know if it is the lighting, angle or the centering but my eye is drawn back to that area.

Again just my 2 cents (and I'm no expert at portraits).

I kinda like the tight crop of these ... The high contrast one does not make it on any level with me.

The lighting on the color seems a bit flat... lips look good and moist (good thing) you might wanna brighten the eyes some.

A good start though!

I think the high contrast can be helped out if you boost the midtones more (this may help lighten up her eyes in the color version as well). When I'm looking at the thumbnail of the high contrast, the lingering midtones look like nasty mustach shadows (looks more natural larger, but still not very flattering)

When composing, try cropping more of the head and less of the chin to bring her eyes to the upper third of the image...should make more impact.

Great first try!

This is my quick re-edit of the high contrast. Which, by the way, looks a lot better when viewed larger than the thumbnail. I think it still has that "high contrast" look and feel, but not so, um, scary! Great portrait!

I also think the crop is a little tight. I think showing some neck would help. It is creating the illusion of a double chin here, which I am sure she doesnt have! I would also have to say no to the high contrast, it really makes her look hard. Unless of course you grunged it up some and Wanted her to look hard :)
I do like the lighting tho, a nice Portrait feel to it.
