Perhaps I have confused you here. SA has nothing to do with this. It's just that the language used looks quite similar to Afrikaans and I took my impression of what was said based on my knowledge of Afrikaans. It would appear that the person is claiming ownership of photos where they have only paid a limited usage licence. This cannot possibly be right.

The language is norwegian, as perhaps you know. However since I speak it fluently I can tell what he IS saying.

On the first page (before you look at any pictures) he says that "The pictures gallery contains pictures taken by Svein Martinsen" .. and the continues on to say that the pages may take a while to load... then latter under the next heading, makes the viewer aware that the pictures are his property (which is true.. since he probably purchased them (the ones he didn't take) on a stock site), and that downloading the pictures without permission is illegal. (and then goes on to say) Send an email here, if you wish to download any of these pictures, or need a high res image for printing.

... the parts in brakets added, of course.

I am eager to see if he responds to my email... and if he finds this thread seeing as he is probably getting hits on his site from dpchallenge.

And why having your images on a few sites instead of everyone that will take you, is much better for the long term. Especially when things like this happen.

I have noticed before on microstock sites that the buyer can even make a print and sell it. It's not much different here. It's worng, but it's the risk you take with microstock.

I have actually made as much money on that shot as I would have if it sold on alamy... so yes, I am quite pleased with the 50 cents I got paid. Additionally I don't think the problem of knowing where the image was purchased from is isolated to micro stock. If you are exlusivly macro stock and have RF images, one will maxamize their earnings by submitting to numerous sites. I know Jodie Coston for exmaple has her images on Alamy, Myloupe, and Acclaim.. and probably a few smaller ones, such as pixibit.

I'm curious what became of this situation. Did the photographer ever respond to you? Are you proceeding with any further actions? Surely, what he's doing can not be legal. Even if he did purchase them legally from a stock site, he shouldn't be able to claim them as his own work. Very ethically wrong in my opinion. I tought I recognized the little baby in the black turtle neck then I realized where I'd seen it. It's one of the pictures that they put in frames in the stores. Unless he took that and sells it for stock, then that's probably another on he's passing off as his own. Some people can be pretty low. Sad really.

I wrote an email to the site.. and am awaiting a reply. If i don't hear anything, I will either write another email, or give him a call.
