Well.....as many of you know I have been using a very ghetto old Nikon Coolpix 950 for around two months or so now. While using this camera has made me look at things from a more creative standpoint...it has also limited my images to pretty non-complex stuff, as the camera doesn't have the greatest features. Alas....I still do love the little thing and plan on keeping it for a loooong time.

But....I have been struck with the good fortune known as....Tax Returns. I have also managed to save up a little money here and there for some new equipment. So....here's the deal. I plan on getting a Panasonic FZ20. I have decided on this camera because I simply do not have enough money to buy a good SLR and a good set of lenses that cover as much range as the FZ20 with as much speed.

But...here's where I need some help. Besides getting a new camera, I also want to get a set of studio lights, a decent tripod, and a good bounce flash. I have done some looking around on eBay and have decided that there are entirely too many lighting choices out there. For my studio set up I really want to get a set of four strobes, a couple of softboxes, an umbrella, stands for the lights, a couple of reflectors, and a background holder. I can't think of much else that I would need at the moment for a decent studio.

Has anyone tried the packages that you can get on ebay? You can get everything I listed for around 500 bucks on ebay in one big package...I was just wondering what the quality of the items were.

So...if you would please....reccomend me a decent studio setup, a decent tripod (I was thinking a manfroto...), and a good bounce flash. Here are my price ranges: Lighting setup; $500-$800, Tripod; $100ish, Flash; No Clue (maybe around a 100?)

Thanks in advance for your help.....

It would be interesting to hear about the ebay lighting setups. I too have been bouncing around there for a few months... and always end up in that Steve Kaeser's store as he seems to have some of the better setup (at least well presented). What's the story on the Briteks?

I don't have any info about lighting, but I can recommend a tripod:
Manfrotto 724B
I have it, and it's been pretty nice so far. Much better than the old Velbon I had, or a walmart model. Has a ball head, decent build quality, pretty compact. The only things I can find wrong with it (and it's a matter of opinion), is I'd like a seperate panning lock, and the 4-section legs take a little longer to set up (although it does fold smaller that way)

Anybody else have some wise words of wisdom?
