If it makes any difference, I'm working on another experiment (an extension of The Gauntlet if you will) that should be up and running soon. That's all I can say for now... stay tuned!

What if instead of choosing one of say ten offered photos to edit, you edit your own image doing a before/after side by side or up down, whichever suits?

Beach_mel I like the idea. Perhaps, though, as a seperate challenge?

The idea behind using the same set of images is to take out the camera as part of the equation and highlight our post-processing abilites. Not to rehash an old debate or provoke a new one, but that way, those who only have access to P&S cameras (like myself!) can't say that the DSLR users have an advantage because we'd all be using the same images. :)

bumpity bump.

edit:
This will be my one and only bump. Unless someone else keeps this alive, I will allow it to fade into the shadows of dropped pixels. :)

Frankly, I'm getting tired of people constantly coming up with ideas to try new things or change the way we do things around here. Seems like almost everyday someone has a brilliant brainstorm of an idea, some people jump on the bandwagon without really thinking thru the consequences, and then we have these discussions where anyone who doesn't go for the new idea gets flamed.

The site is the way it is. Lots of people like it. It's a very popular site just as it is. It doesn't need a makeover. Just enjoy it for what it is, learn as much as you can, and if you want something else, then go somewhere else, or just start your own site where you can do it however you want. This place is fine, don't mess with success.

coolhar, since you posted this in my thread, I feel like I must respond as though you are talking directly to me. Perhaps you're not, but I will respond as though you are...

If you would, please go back and re-read the entire thread and also note the forum in which it is posted in. At no one time did I flame anyone for not going along with my suggestion. I also stated repeatedly that it was not an attempt to change the site in any way, shape, form, or manner. I enjoy the site in its entirety just the way that it is, just as you do.

If you do re-read the thread, you'll also notice that I asked that we try it just once and see how it goes. That in no way implies a permanant change or "messing with success".

Some suggestions are good, others aren't. The ones that aren't good don't get done and fade away....

FWIW, thank you for posting your opinion.

George

I think a single challenge, called Digital Art would be a nice change. It would basically not have any rules, per se. It would include mulitiple images as well. I don't think having a regular weekly challenge of that nature would work, but maybe just as one extra (similar to free study in January) would be fun. I know I have a lot of fun with my photo editing, and there are so many times I wish I could enter some of the images I work up digitally, but they break so many rules that they can't be entered. It would also be nice to open it up to all members, paid or basic. Then we could all share our techniques and learn a whole lot about the different editing packages out there. There is more than photo shop. Anyway, it could actually run like a month, similar to free study, and we could all just go hog wild (sorry for the term. I am really into country life II mentality right now. Ha ha.)

Ooh, I know we could have a 'post processing' challenge, but instead of having a photo pool, everyone could, I dunno, take their own pictures... =]

Yeah, that does sound like fun :) It's basically what I've been suggesting all along, but even more open. I like it!

You seem to be missing the whole point of the suggestion, Trey. That's ok though, but I wish you could have responded without the sarcasm. If you don't like the idea, then either say you don't like it or don't respond and it'll fade away...
