really weird. I was finished editing a photo and went to save as like every other millionth time, but this it won't let me save as jpeg. Only psd or tiff type stuff. Any ideas?

Is it B/W or Duotone? Did you remember to change back to RGB?

and alot of the filter options are gone now too. but when I open up an old jpeg, I can save that as jpeg and use all filters. does that ring a bell?

Are you in 16 bit mode? Swich it to 8 bit and you should see the jpeg option when you go to save. Go to Image/Mode/8Bits/channel.

looks like telehubbie is our grand prize winner:

what does telehubbie win today folks, a brand..new.. thank you!

So, what is the advantage to 16 bit? however I got there. Should I edit in 16 bit and then save in 8 bit for jpeg?

Yes, whenever possible. 16bit (presumably from a RAW file) gives your computer more information to work with, and thus better results.

Your welcome! I got stuck on the same thing once, and it was really frustrating until I figured it out. I'm not expert on this, but with 16 bit you get smoother color/tone transitions.
