Messing around for the Abstract Challenge, I got side tracked a bit with Digital Manipulation. Makes for a cool desktop though (at least for the moment).

This is a GPU fan/heatsink from a video card I overclocked a bit too much and fried. (Love BFGs Logo). Used the EF 50mm 1.8 MKII.

Fan sitting directly on a light table (tracing table) light coming from below. Ambient light from above.

This Stock photo > Abstract > Digital Art is a result of (using MS DIP 10):

Duplicated to a new layer.
Negative Filter applied to top layer.
Gradient Transparency (Circlular from inside) applied to top layer
Flatten Layers
Emboss Filter applied
Cement Filter applied
USM
Messed with levels to get a happy light/dark feel.
Maybe a bit more sharpen, crop and resize.

Thought I'd share.

Honestly the real reason I did not persue this object for the abstract challenge is without all the filters you would see just how much dirt one of these fans will collect... Doesn't make for a good sharp close-up shot.
