Hey guys, I'm just trying to become a little more invloved so I figured I would get off my butt and share with you the story of my Germany trip last summer. I have been meaning to do this for some time, but I am a major procrastinator and just haven't had the will to do it. So anyway, during the schoolyear last year, I had a German student some to my house here in America (Georgia) for a couple of weeks. I that time, I showed my exchange student around my town, and just gave him the throug and through of America. He left and there was a stretch of seperation until summer hit, then it was off to Germany for me. I toured Germany (without my exchange partner) for 10 days. During that time I had the opportunity to see some things that I didn't even know existed. (And by the way I now consider myself a conniseur of the beers ;).) I saw everything from castles to million dollar sportscars -- things most people never see. It was an experience I will bever forget. But little did I know the experience was only beginning...

We were then scheduled to go to a small town in southern Germany called Biberach, where my German exchange partner and the other partners of my school group resided. This, at the time, did not strike my fancy. I figured, "After seeing all of this, why stay in a small town?". But what I was forgetting is that throughout my tour, I had never really been immersed in the foreign culture of Germany, just the tourist culture.

I arrived at their house on a dreaded dreary day. My whole tour bus was shaking in their boots. Germans of course know much more English that we know German primarily, so they were much better off than we were going to be. I was introduced to his family, and proceeded to venture into the unknown.

I won't go into explicit detail as to what went on in those ten days that I stayed with my exchange family, but just know that being immersed in a culture other than your own is an informative not to mention exhillerating experience, not to be passed up on any occasion of foreign travel. I strongly recommend finding a family that will show you what a foreign country is reallylike.

So thats my story, hope you enjoyed it almost in the opposite way that I loathed typing it.

Oh and I uploaded some pictures of the touring portion, they can be found here.

Thanks for reading,
Adam

Hey Adam-

What program did you go to germany with? I went on a school trip for three weeks this summer too and it was amazing. Actually, it sounds just like the one you just described.
We had two days in germany before we went to a homestay for a week, then two more weeks of touring. There was absolutely nothing like the homestay... I completely agree that it was exhillerating. the whole "tour bus shaking in thier boots" line is exactly the way it was for us too... the first lunch with my family seemed to go on for hours, but by the end of the week I wanted nothing but to stay longer.
I'll upload some of my own images later, then we can compare.
