Nice! What was your shutter speed, 1/60? Did you do any smoothing/NI on it?

Liar. That looks like a 400 ISO with my 300D. There's no way that could be 1600. Or you know, my camera's just old. :P

And the key is...

Exposure Compensation
+1/3

The combination of this setting, evaluative metering and a frame containing a majority of darker tones probably resulted in the need to to "pull" exposure back a bit in RAW conversion, which does minimize noise at high ISO. I rather suspect that's why this looks so good, it was exposed correctly to maximize the camera's capability.

Pretty normal for an ISO1600 pic presented at 640px if you ask me.
