There seems to be a misunderstanding, about a shadow, or a silhouette. Shadow Dictionary: dark shape on a surface when something stands BETWEEN light and the surface. So many seem to be very well done, but in my opinion have been taken from the wrong direction making them silhouettes, rather than Shadows, Or the backlighting is not perspective to what the photgrapher is conveying. submission details take a photo of your shadow. what are other members thoughts

I don't think there's that many that seem to be off topic. Most seem to know what a shadow is.

A shadow is not a shadow if the light sorce is in front of the camera

Not many more off-topic photos than usual ... I'd say the percentage is probably actually pretty low.

If the illusion is that of a shadow, what difference does it make how it was created?

There are a number of pics (mine included) where the shadow is being photographed THRU a translucent surface. IMO this sort of image is still of the shadow, as opposed to a silhoutte which is created by photographing a backlit subject directly.

Im myself thought there were quite a few silhouettes that were made to look like shadows. Not the saem - but will score each on its own merits and how well it was executed.

In the case of a silhouette, isn't the camera sensor the 'surface' ? :)

My image IS an actual shadow, but I feel I'm getting slammed because many think its a silhouette. Of well, I knew it would happen. I even had my wife take a photo of the set up.

TooCool. when you consider the type of comments that are given during challenges, as to the good and the bad, IMO a lot has to do with the way it was created.

Not only that, it said YOUR shadow, not someone elses. In some if that is the shadow of the photographer, there is no way that photographer took it thus DMC. Am I wrong? I am not in this challenge.

Some photos can be taken by the photographer and have both them and their shadow...I have seen it done before.
