Ok, having scraped a 5.456 in Wildlife using the image I judged as best of my selection, I'm now interested in whether one of my other potential choices would have done better.
Here's my entry

And I'd really appreciate comments on these two:

Young Emu

Pelicans

The main reason I didn't use either of those was because neither are native wildlife to my country of residence and are taken within the wildlife park... but did I make the right decision?

I assume they would score roughly the same since they appear not to be wild. Folks, including myself, voted low on non-wild shots. The shots are all nice, but thats the reason for the score to me.

Thanks so much for your input and I understand where you are coming from.

Just to point out though, that the reason I used the camel is because there are herds still living basically wild here, or at least as wild as camels ever have.

I enjoy the young emu and the pelicans better than the camel - the dark curly feathers on the emu contrast nicely with the background and it is better focus than the camel tho' both use a nice shallow dof to isolate the subject. The pelicans are colorful, bright and interesting - I also like the composition on the interesting tree - a nice diagonal more dinamic than the camel composition. The emu composition is nice too - filling the frame better than the camel which feels a bit squished at the bottom of the frame. In its favor, the camel does have a quirky, engaging, toothy expression - but the picture just didn't grab me like the other two would have. As for the wild issue - knowing DPC photographers are from all over the world I was inclined to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks adine, for taking the time to reply and for your helpful and constructive comments. I also think I like the emu shot best, but thought it would get marked down for obviously not being in a natural environment. C'est la vie!

Loved your cardinal entry in wildlife, btw.

Pelicans would of scored higher.

I myself prefer the pelicans shot. I just like the subject, the lighting, and the composition better.
