I got this today and an off shoe flash cord...and I am a bit befuddled.

THis is my first time using a flash bracket. I am used to holding the camer with my left hand and useing said left hand to adjust teh zoom. the right hand adjusts ap or shutter and presses the shutter button.

Now when i put the camera on the bracket, the bracket has a big ruber handle, so i want to hold it (seems logical, right?). I have this set up to the left of the camera, so my right hand can still do right hand things (shutter things, ap things, etc)

Both hands are busy, no hand left to zoom with....

Just to complicate matters, when I rotate to portrait mode i turn the camera so the shutter button is on top. This bracket puts teh button on the bottom (i can get used to this i suppose)

Am i doing this right? Wrong? Ideas? I tried a remote release on the big grip, but then EVERYTHING is bass akwords (left hand holds and does shutter, right hand does zoom and camera in portrait mode is upside down.) Yuk.
I could turn the bracket around and that seems to fix most issues (everything is packed away again or i'd try this)

HELP!

I don't have the exact bracket you have, but mine basically does the same thing. I don't use the BG with it. When I zoom, I use the hand holding the grip in the bracket and place the bottom of the whole rig on the heel of my hand using my index fnger and thumb to operate the zoom. Honestly, I don't hold the grip on the bracket much at all when shooting.

It's awkward at first, but you can adapt.

This is one idea I may try IF the camera can slide far enought to one side on teh bracket. I think it will...not sure about balance, but i
ll have to adjust whatever I do.

Actually, I don't use my bracket anymore since I got my lightsphere II.

I went to B&H to try different flash brackets. Most of them seem to go to the left of the camera, but a few go to the right. They're all slightly different, so you have to "try them on for size".

The bracket I got (the CB Junior) goes on the right, and lets me operate the camera normally. The only issue I have is that I use a battery grip, and the weight of the bracket and flash seems to be about as much as the battery grip can accomodate (that is, the battery grip to camera connection starts to wobble a bit).

I have a lightsphere but still get some shadowing on portrait shots. Perhaps my flash it too powerful ;)

Beside, the bracket makes me look more professional LOL, and it's an excuse to get the shoe cord that i will likely use for macro and such at some point.

with the bracket i got i can extend the flash some 28 inches high, and it will hold an umbrella and fits a regular lightstand top as well - so it can do a lot as well as tilt.

that does seem very difficult to work with, I do see it has a sliding base so you can more the camera out but could you mount the camera backwards so that the handle is on the left side? Don't know, that could be just stupid of me but I haven't used one so not sure. I'll have to take that into consideration if/when I do get one.
