The world's best reflector is cheap and easy to find. I use the pop up sun reflectors that are made for car windshields. You can find them in silver and bronze colors which gives either cool or warm reflections. Easy to carry around. You can find them at wal-mart, etc. or at auto stores.

I saw a tutorial recently about building one with PVC pipe and white cotton - I'll see if I can dig up a link to it..... |

I'm betraying my ignorance but what's the diffuser and reflector for? |

Plastic painter's dropsheets can be used as diffusers.
Diffuser: something to filter the light
Reflector: something to reflect light back onto your subject

i bought a set of the car windshield sun protectors yesterday...a most excellent sunlight reflector...i came up with a nice, simple idea for building my own diffuser, but in the interest of time i'll probably just buy one...it stinks living in a small town, i had to call around and finally found a shop that has one...it's an hour drive :-( |

I found the tutorial I mentioned yesterday, unfortunately its on a CD-Rom from my local Photography Guild.
It was very simple as I recall. The guy used PVC pipe and PVC elbows to create a large rectangle (about the size of a door) and attached thin white cotton fabric over the frame with gaffers tape or clamps. It looked like a good one as it can be easily broken down and thrown in the back of the car. On location (the tutorial was on a beach) he used 3 of them to make a "house" (2 side walls and a celing), put the model inside and shot away. |

that's pretty cool...i'll keep the pvc in mind...i had an idea to build one with a wooden frame and put hinges on each side so it would fold down in half and fit in my car...maybe a future weekend project
thanks for looking, Cindi :-) |
