I want to drag edited jpeg files into a new folder in iPhoto to keep them organized. When I do so, iPhoto rejects that image (all of them actually and all are jpegs) and says it is an unrecognizable image. I really need to do this.....

Any ideas. Thanks.

Are the photos already in the main iPhoto library?

Have you tried using the import feature again on all the edited pictures? Also, do you normally import from your camera directly into iPhoto?

Cutter, I'm not sure exactly what you are doing. Are you dragging the edited files into a folder in your iPhoto folder in the Photos folder, or are you importing the edited photos into your iPhoto library and then dragging them (from iPhoto's browse window) into an album (looks like a little folder) in the albums pane on the left??

Just reread the above messages.

When you're editing them, are they being saved as .psd files or something?? Are you sure they're jpgs?

They are jpegs.

Basically this is what I am trying to do. I use iPhoto to download from my D70. They go into their folders by date right. Okay, I then edit them and usually save them into the same dated folder as when imported. Now what I am trying to do now is take the edited jpegs and put them into their own nice neat little folder in iPhoto that says "prints" or "my photography" or something. To keep them in iPhoto but in a seperate folder. Does that help?

You should be able to just go to "Create New Album" and then drag the edited photos from the library folder right to the new folder. Do you see both the original and edited pictures in the main library folder? Is the extension on your new images .jpeg or .jpg?

i got it. if the image is already in iPhoto library you cannot put it into a new folder unless you copy into a folder outside of iPhoto and then import it back in as a new folder. Or at least that is what worked for me. Thanks you guys. Your words brought insight and idea to this otherwise simple problem.

Good deal...I don't know if you have the new iLife '06 yet or not, but I must admit that the new iPhoto '06 is definitely an upgrade over the old version. It seems much faster and able to handle a lot more pictures. It also has a cool new full screen edit mode as well.

You can't (or shouldn't) mess around with anything in the iPhoto Library folder manually. Attempting to import something already in the iPhoto Library folder will bring up the "unrecognized file" message. To make a new folder in iPhoto, just click the "plus" symbol at the bottom left of the iPhoto window (or right-click and choose "New Album"). Then, simply drag whatever photos you want from the Library view into that folder.
