I was in third grade and they announced it over the PA system. Christa was from New Hampshire and a good friend of many teachers in our school. Many knew her personally, and we had followed her training on a week to week basis from when she was chosen to go right to the very end.

I remember Mr. Harris looking up when the PA came on, and hearing one of the teachers in the hall wail. And when Mr. Harris lost it, we ALL started bawling.

I get teary all over again thinking about it. I remember Christa's mom, I remeber the memorial services. I think this tragedy is probably why age nine is so emblazoned in my memory.

I remember that it was a snow day and my brother and I had to stay at my aunts house. We had just come in from playing in the snow and eating snow cream when we saw it on the news.

We were cleaning out the basement today, and came across an old VHS tape labeled "Challenger". I used to set the VCR to tape soap operas for my wife while we were at work. What we got that day was a few hours of Peter Jennings instead.

I was in the recordeing studio in Londons Thameside, recording an album with Lee 'scratch' Perry (A reggae legend) It was to become his highest chart album and for the record company trojan, it reached number 2 behind a young man called Shinehead. I remember the day well because Lee (a total excentric) started singing about space ships and rockets... we later found out the shuttle had dived. Sad day but for me, those days are among the happiest of my life.

The album name if interested -: Battle of Armagideon(millionaire Liquidator) Lee 'scratch'Perry & the Upsetters

I played Bass and remain 'officially' the last ever Upsetter member who played bass for Lee.

hehehehehe my only claim to fame
