I have my iPod connected to my Mac and it is charging. I don't have the same files that are on my iPod on my hard drive. I simply want to play my music on my iPod on my computer speakers by USB connection. Is this possible?

CLick on the ipod icon on the left side of itunes. You should see the music on there. Hit play. :D

Or just plug the speakers straight into your ipod.

I don't think this works (not at my Mac right now). I think when you select the iPod from the left-most column in iTunes, it shows the contents, but they're all "grayed out" and not selectable, or clickable, and thus, not playable.

The best way, as mk suggested, is to plug your iPod directly into a stereo via aux cable.

Whoops, meant to quote Brent Ward, not MK.

You need to make sure that you're manually managing your files on your iPod. It won't be greyed out anymore, and iTunes won't automatically add or (gasp) erase files from your iPod to match those in your iTunes library.

Ah, that explains my experience. I do not manually manage, but let my iPod mirror my iTunes music collection exactly. That works, I guess, until my music collection outgrows my iPod.
