Well, after 3 years of watching dpc mainly from the shadows I've finally bought myself a membership :) I think my lack of becoming a member and displaying my photos has always been a confidence issue. Anyways... I've thrown a few photos up and would appreciate any feedback or pointers. I'll throw some more up sometime today.

As soon as I bought a membership I stopped using it. As soon as it expired, I started again. Hope that doesnt happen to you. |

I just had a look at your profile, and every single photo I saw was black & white :-( |

What's wrong with that? I think there are some very nice images in there. And YES, I'm partial to black and white! :-) |

I'm so happy for you.
I, on the other hand, prefer color. There are SOME occasions where b&w is the better choice, but very often I think it is overdone just for the sake of it.
Fraser said he'd "appreciate any feedback or pointers". This is mine: not everybody is in love with b&w photos, most certainly not ALL the time. |

fraser! welcome,
I love your "ways of seeing" black and white beauty in a color world - and I love the gritty goodness of some of your work (rent boy in particular). You have a unique style that I think will add diversity to DPC.
My advice, after just ponied up for my second year here, is take this all with a grain of salt. Some feedback is helpful, most is not. Understand the feedback is coming from many different places on the learning curve.
I found two or three way above me on the learning curve, worked my way into their graces, and adopted them as mentors. I've learned that trying to judge challenges through the eye of the photographer teaches me a lot more than trying to jam their photo into my narrow interpretation of the challenge, and I've learned that even photos that score quite low in a challenge can still sell for hundreds of dollars per sale.
I hope you learn lots - I look forward to seeing lots more of your style. Don't change your style to match the feedback, it would be a pity to lose a great b&w artist.
regards,

I wish everything in my portfolio was black and white, but most of the time I leave the color in to make up for weaknesses in shape, contrast, and lighting.
I love a good black and white port; the photos always seem so much more timeless. (More timeless... isn't that an oxymoron of sorts?) |

Thank you so much for the comments, welcomes and advice. I'll take them all onboard. I've uploaded a few more photos if anybody is interested in looking at them. I even stumbled upon some colour ones :)
Thanks for looking |
