Any of you Bay Area folks out there ever checked out the Ano Nuevo State Reserve Elephant Seal Tours? They run from Jan - early March. It looks pretty cool and might be another idea for a future GTG.

Rasdub - been there many times and it's a great three mile (plus/minus) walk and you do get very close to the elephant seals. It's part trail and part dunes. (But) You are escorted by docents who hurry you along so the next tour - they start hourly - can come along and see the animals. It is next to impossible to do photography on such a tour. I've tried.
Still the best place to get Elephant Seals is down near Cambria. This place is the other side of Big Sur from San Francisco so I stay at least overnight when I try for those beauties. Best action is December/January, with the weaned pups and males hanging around pretty much through February.
Edited for typing gremlins...

Ok, it's on my calendar - I look forward to finally meeting you all! I've been to the CNY Parade and it's a mad-house, not many picture ops unless you are standing on a mailbox or willing to fight the crowd to get in front by the street. However, I have never done the Street Fair, so I'm willing to give it a try.
What type of lenses are you all thinking to use? Long lens (70-200) would be great for some candids, but I'm feeling hard pressed to bring out the big gun in that crowd. Now I'm wishing I had one of those new 24-105's! |

I'm probably going to stick to my 24-135 and hope to make up for my lack of fast, long glass by being extra clever :} |

Yes, I'll probably go with my newish 28-300 Sigma - and will wish I had a wide-angle with me. |

I think I'll actually throw the 50mm 1.8 in the bag. Discreet and non-threatening.

As long as this thread is headed for oblivion - and another 'kill' for Alice, I'll mention that February and early March are great times for the almost florescent green/yellow mustard up in the wine country of Napa and Sonoma. That vibrant color against the stark vines and trellis rows can be darned difficult to capture with any originality. (All the good photogs try) |

Once again another Chinese New Years Treasure Hunt will be going on during the days celebrations. Also Moscone center hosts WonderCon again that weekend also.

Ah yes, I remember fondly the trip up to your friends' estate in Napa, despite my difficulties with timing. Beautiful part of the country. |

Still on my calendar. Let's hope the weather is in our favor. Any recommendations on where to park in that area? |

My plan is to park at a BART station someplace out of the main urban area and ride BART to the Montgomery Street station. |

The Sutter Stockton Garage may be your best bet, but the link lists just about all the municipal garages. |
