Has anybody had problems uploading large files for validation purposes?
The RAW file I'm trying to send in is a whopping 24Mb and it just won't seem to happen! I'm worried now that it will be a DQ because I can't get the file to the administrators :-(

What's happening, exactly, can you tell? Is the site not accepting it or is it your connection? |

It seems to finish the job (over 5 minutes on my broadband connection) then gives the message 'sorry a valid image ID is needed' (or words to that effect).
I included the ID in the body of the explanation, but that didn't work.

Ah yes, I've had that before. The system seems to puke with larger images. Hang on a few and let me see if it's something Langdon can fix easily. If not, you can get the file to me and I'll help get it evaluated. No worries! |

That would be great - thanks for finding this query so soon and offering a solution! |

Langdon says please try zipping your file and then submitting. 16mb is currently the max upload size but he thinks you should be able to zip it enough to work. If not, let me know and we have a back up plan. :) |

If a straight Zip won't work, what about splitting the Zip into multiple parts? Is there a way for the SC to access such a file? |

We'll need to go to plan 'B' I think. The file won't compress down below the 16mb limit. These new-fangled multi megapixel cameras make wonderful pictures, but they come with baggage! |

Does your camera produce a JPEG along with the RAW? Mine does both a TIFF (14.4mb) and a JPEG (1.4mb) which I think is what it uses to display on the camera screen. The JPEG has all the originating EXIF data if you haven't touched it all.
Edit:- I see on dpreview that your camera has two settings
- NEF (12bit RAW) presumably on its own
- NEF+JPG ... which is obviusly what I was referring to.
You might need to use the NEF+JPG if you've only been using NEF

If you're using WinZip, make sure that you have the compression option set to "Maximum" (which is not the default setting), you could get lucky.

Upload to a website and give the SC the link?

I was thinking this might be the way to go. I'm quite new to DPC and saving with JPEG isn't my normal workflow, but it's not a problem.
Technically the JPEG image sent for validation wouldn't be the one that was worked on - "Once you've RAW'd, you're forever AWE'd".
I'm not sure if that would be OK for the SC. |
