It was not intended to be an attack. I made an assumption based on your profile and your initial comment 'I didn't enter so it will make little difference to me' that you were one that did not care about the site. Once again I appologize for my assumption.

MMMM, you know what this whole thread sounds like to me? - My two 6year old kids fighting over some stupid thing - In the Car - DADDY, TELL SISSY TO STOP LOOKING AT ME....
Totally strange and ridiculous. I am new to this site, therefor don't know the ins and outs, but my feeling is that if you don't want to look at the photos on a thread - DON't. Personally I love looking at the photos. Learn alot from it. I already took a better photo than the one I entered - just by watching and learning.

Well I didn't get a chance to enter this challenge because of bad weather the only day I would have been able to get out and shoot. If timing was a little different though these are some that I may have entered (-:

Hi TomH1000

Very nice - I love photographing birds. I have a birds nesting around my house called Bush Loeries. Dark blue colour, but when they take off they have a beautifull display of colours. Unfortunately they also have the amazing ability to spot a camera. They are extremely shy and always hiding. You just get glimpses of them. Nice challenge for me. Will try to get a photo and post it sometime.

After looking over the submissions, glad I didn't submit this, nor enter the challenge:

(Too common, just a snapshot)

Went with tribute. Wasn't sure if people were not going to like that the deer weren't the only subject...

I had this one lined up too but cloned out so many other deer that even I would have disqualified it :-)

Where did you get them?
I do not understand, if they are outtakes, why is it possible to see them before the voting is over?

Rubbish

I defer to your 5 entries into challenges and your 94 visits to the forums over the last nearly 2 years. I did not realize that you had such insight to how this community works. Post away...

In the future, if you wish to debate a point please do so on its merits alone. Site users of any tenure or level of participation are welcome and encouraged to participate, and that includes expressing their opinions in the forums. It is not appropriate to in any was suggest that a user's participation in a discussion is not welcome simply because their past participation does not meet some arbitrary level that you have established.

I think this thread shows that such assumptions are not always valid.

Having just waded through this thread, this lengthy thread, I have a couple of observations.

I think the whole question of seniority was brought up in the context of the ethos and tone of the site, which is on the whole rather kind and supportive, and what behaviors were seen by the community as fostering the positive benefits of the site. A vertran of the site might help a new member understand what has been the behavior in the past, and how the community as a whole might react to any given action. When someone says "well that isn't how it has always been" and they have been here three weeks, thier notion of "always" is different than someone who has been here for years.

I don't feel strongly about out-takes, but have always thought it " wasn't cricket" to post before judging was complete, as it might take interst away from the work of those who had made the effort to submit to the challenge. I see it a bit like going to a neighbour's house during dinner, having no intention of eating their food, and then offering the other guests your bag of potato chips to share. OK that analogy didn't quite work, but that may be because the whole question is such a slippery issue.

Had the title just been Zoo shots, and skipped the word outtakes, some how that would have been kosher, I can't point to a rule and say why, just would have felt better.

And as mama used to say " if you can't say it nice, don't say nothing at all."

Man, that's too bad. That would have scored well.

Some more - trying out borders.

I liked this one for it's colors
But ended up submitting this.

My entry in 98th:against this outtake:

Both are almost straight out of camera. Second one has no edits, not even curve adjustments.
Who wins? (me thinks the outtake)

I am always keen on seeing the eyes - the outtake wins for me

I agree with your choice. The other one is too... how should I put it... too busy. I gave yours a 9, the other would have gotten a 5 or 6 from me.

Thanks for clarifying! One very useful comment I should add! Will heed the advice for the future shots.

Here's the one I submitted and the one I almost did. I chose the first one because it had more "character" but the Eagle has greater clarity. Should I have chosen the Eagle instead? Any advice would be helpful.

Image I submitted:

Image I almost submitted instead:

Thank you.
