Can anyone tell me how to turn off the "automatic" adjustments when files open in raw?
(i.e. exp. shadows, bright. and contrast) have looked thru preferences cannot seem to find anyway to have them as shot.

Just turn them all off, and create a subset, and use it as default.

To expand on that a little for people who aren't as familiar with the Adobe Raw interface...
Uncheck the 'auto' boxes and then click on the little triangle next to where it says "Settings:" and "Custom". Then from the pop up list pick "Save new Camera RAW Defaults".
What I am wondering is when I uncheck auto, the slider for Shadows and Brightness are NOT in the center... Shadows is at 5 and Brightness at 50. If I put shadows to 50 (the midpoint) my photos always look like crap. So is 5 really the closest to what comes out of the camera and there are only 4 adjustment steps less than that, but 95 above it?

It's probably because d70 RAW seems to aways be a bit underexposed. |

You know, I'm glad you said that. I thought it was always just me. I've been seriously thinking of just dialing in +.3 or +.6 exposure compensation and leaving it that way.
Thanks for making me feel sane.
