Looks great!
The only thing I might do to the article is to add some links, and maybe make some minor changes to the wording. It could probably stand to be broken into sections as well. The content is excellent, and that's the most important (and hardest) part! The nice thing about a wiki is that it's a collaborative effort; users work and rework articles to make them the best they can be.
This weekend I plan to research image uploading, and to post some style guidelines. They'll probably be heavily based on the guidelines on Wikipedia.
I also need to figure out how I want to handle tutorials versus traditional encyclopædic articles.
Either way, that's some great content. Thanks for the effort you put into getting that together!

I've now activated the image uploading feature. At least for now, I'm asking that images will be kept to 75K or smaller whenever possible. The upload page will generate a warning if you attempt to upload a larger file. You can override this limit and force the upload, but please don't do so without good reason.
Thanks,
Terry

How's this coming so far, Terry? It's an admirable project, one that I hope to contribute to in the near future.
Edit: Is there any way to pull up an "index" of sorts with all of the current articles? It seems impractical to only be able to search for articles, especially if I'm just looking for an article to read with no specific criteria or topic in mind.

Hi Justin!
There is a way to get a list of all articles. If you go to Special:Allpages it will list all articles in the Main namespace. You can also get a list of all articles in the Howto: namespace (tutorials), though there are none yet, as I just added that this weekend.
I hope you find the site useful, and I look forward to your contributions!

Hey all,
I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to write some tutorials for Wikitography? I've recently added a section just for tutorials and would love to get it populated. There is information available on the Main Page there, or feel free to contact me.
In addition, if anyone who writes a tutorial for Wikitography would like that tutorial posted on DPC as well, please let me know. I'll take care of any necessary work to get it into a DPC-usable format for Drew and Langdon.
Thanks!
~Terry

Speaking as a photographer, I'd love to read tutorials on proper use of studio lighting, including setup, use and metering. I'd also like to see something on marketing print sales locally.
As a site administrator, I welcome anything that you think another photographer might find usefu, and that you're willing to allow to be edited and distributed.

| I was thinking about contributing, especially after seeing the rather bare content of the "Canon" article. I hopped over to Wikipedia to see the analogous page, and it is of course much more developed. My question is: how much overlap do you envision with Wikipedia? For example, I could simply copy over that page, but, following that slippery slope, that would seem to lead to an incredible amount of "reinventing the wheel" as large chunks of Wikipedia's camera pages would need to be duplicated and presumably kept in sync. But, if I just put up a stub to Wikipedia's content, then that would seem to defeat the purpose of a "one-stop photography resource". What are your thoughts? |
