Mike.... Where do you get that script?

I'd be interested too. Can I get a PM also?

Huh? Resolution is selectable. By default it is 72 but you can change it to anything you want (i.e. 96 for screen, 300 for printer, etc.)

I'm not suggesting we require everyone's photos contain exif data. The users here wouldn't need to change anything in their process at all.

I believe the current code not only doesn't auto-populate those fields, it actually strips out any EXIF data it finds.

Autopulating with EXIF data would reduce data entry errors and help inform those whose camera dates are off that there is a problem and save them the embarassment of disqualification.

It is standard practice in computer programming to autopopulate fields if the incoming data contains the needed information or leave fields blank if they do not. The customer is allowed to modify a populated field if they want to. This provides customers the best possible service.

In the DPC case those that upload with EXIF data do not to have to enter it but they can change it if they want. Those that don't upload EXIF continue to enter data just as before. If EXIF data needs to be removed for application reasons it can be done after the fields are populated.

I would like to second this suggestion (or 3rd, 4th). I find I'm always having to open up the image in RawShooter to retrieve the values. It would be a great addition to the website to auto fill if the values are present!

If you're using windows you can right click the image, hit properties and then advanced and extract the info that way. Might be quicker than opening up rsp/rse

i think it would be a great idea for the site to grab any info available and stick it into forms for me, how can this be a bad thing? Any way with my memory by the time i've flicked through the windows and found the info and gone back i've forget the info!! :)

write it down? Oh, then you'll have to find a pen. ;o)

Good idea for those who preserve the EXIF in their submission.

I second this idea as well. Only question I have is how do you preserve the exif info when saving from PS? (I don't want to hijack this thread, but if someone could PM me, that'd be great!)

Another alternative would be to require that the exposure data fields are filled before the submission is accepted. This would be similar to what happens if you forget to check the boxes where you affirm that the image was taken with digital, that you will provide original, and that you've read the rules. If it's possible to code the submission page to mine the data from an upload, and the file has the data, this could be automatic. If not, the entering photog has to manually enter the exposure data values into the fields already provided. The benefit is the same either way - viewers could better understand how the shot was taken, and learn from it.

There is an option to keep EXIF or scrap it. I usually scrap it to conserve file size, LOL! I know, I'm silly.

1-Select file->Save as...
2-In "Format:" scroll the list and select JPEG.
3-Enter in "Quality:" the highest number from 0 to 12 where "Size:" displays smaller than 150k.
