I went out to shoot some photos for the road/sign challenge, and a few of my shots came out with the lights in star-shape. Any ideas why? I did have the lens hood on, which has a star shape, but I don't think that is it...

Lens is Canon EF 24-70 f2.8

1/5
f11
iso 800
54 mm

f/11!
Try a larger aperture 5.6 or below.

Agreed, f/11! Try a smaller aperature to get more star effects! (f/16 and +)

The technical reason that you see the star shapes is because of the shape of the aperture, which is not circular but a polygon when stopped down. The number of points on the stars depends on the number of aperture blades.
