Getting ready to order, anyone have experience between the Brolly's and the traditional Softboxes? There is a considerable price difference so I wanted to make sure to get it right.

TIA, Mel

A brolly is just an umbrella with a diffuser. Softboxes/octaboxes make more efficient use of the light and are easier to control. They also give you more options for deployment in various situations (e.g. suspended closely over a subject on the end of a boom arm.)

Either one will do the job in many situations.

Go with a softbox/octabox if you can afford it. You won't regret it.

You'll need the heavier stands for the softboxes too. I currently have a brolly box and I love it, but I will be upgrading to get softboxes at some point just to have additional tools.
