| i thought about bringing my 50mm 1.8 but given the 1 range, it was a tough sell for me... i was glad to have abrought a mini tripod though ;) |

Are most spots tripod friendly. If it is then I'll bring my little Velbon and not get another lens (Save for Bigma-after trip).

I figure a external flash is not needed so I will forego bringing it. Any less weight I believe should be to my advantage.

yes. most spots are tripod friendly. i even brought my monopod. i brought my external flash but never even used it ;)
where in Japan are you planning of going? David Pugh is in Utsonomiya... close to Tokyo. he's great and was even our tour guide in Nikko ;) |

| Okay. I don't know what my schedule is yet (I'll be working in a different town from April), but think about making the trip to Nikko/Chuzenji area. |
