Don't ask me exactly what I did because I pushed/pulled a gazillion buttons/sliders! ;^) Still experimenting. What do you think? Foggy out this morning and mist still clinging to the lower areas.

orig from RAW

edited in RAW, finished in PSP X

Did you get a new camera??

I think the editing you did looks pretty good! Love the mist in the trees...beautiful scene.

what program are you using to edit the RAWs? I use PhotoShop CS and have started saving the RAW settings when I find one I like, this allows you to use it on other pictures or recall it if you need to review your steps or provide steps for verification (of course all RAW converstions should be accepted as they are considered "out of camera" and done to the entire image) all while still keeping your original RAW safe.

Image looks good. Have you played with the color temperature to see if you can make it look more like a sunrise? I can play with the RAW settings all day long without getting bored.

Thanks. Yes, I did get a new camera! Same as you - now I only need to score a 7+ to top your high score for the Maxxumm 5D! Only...yeah right! ;^)

I'm using the DiMAGE Master Lite software that came with the camera for now to work with RAW files.

A sunrise would be cheating...it was behind me. ;^) It is fun to play!

At least you don't have to beat librodo to get the high score for your camera :(

Not too shabby, Glad. I might be inclined to mute the blue in the edited version a tad, it seems a bit too blue for the rest of the scene.

I like that last edit you did. That's the camera I almost went with. Congrats!

Isn't it fun getting to know your camera?

You said you edited with PSP X? How do you like that program? I'm thinking of getting it since I can't afford Photoshop. Right now I'm using Jasc PSP8.

I'm just going to be one of those folks who love RAW but can't use it worth crap, so I'll stick with JPG. My conversions always look like absolute junk.

Maybe I should practice, I dunno, but it just doesn't work for me.

Storage is also cheaper... (per photo, I mean).

EDIT: Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread. Please ignore this post.

Thanks for the compliment. I am enjoying this camera so far. Having a similar menu layout/navigation to the Z3 was a definite consideration for me. Anti-shake was a big selling point also. At first I was quite overwhelmed with the extra buttons/dials but they're getting more familiar all the time.

I'm not sure of all the differences between PSP 8 and PSP X. I used PSP 9 previously and I like most of the changes in PSP X with one exception...trying to set B/W points is much more challenging and less precise (and the user's manual with PSP X is the pits - VERY thin).

No apology required...you are quite on subject. Having never shot RAW files until recently and the same with editing, it is a bit intimidating at first (as is anything new and semi-complicated). Can't figure it out if you don't mess around and practice with it. I have an incentive...I need to shoot RAW to convert to .TIF without losing image data so I can upsize and prepare for submitting files to Alamy. I should add that as a goal on my profile page. ;^)

From what I can see so far, the effort to learn RAW conversion will be worth it. Give it another try Bernard.
